Masterworks Program
Masterworks. Big thinking starts here.
At Island Pacific School we know young people are capable of remarkable things.
That belief takes centre stage in Masterworks—a year-long rite of passage where every Grade 9 student chooses something they care deeply about, chases it fearlessly, and then—in June—steps onto a stage to defend their ideas before a public audience.
It’s not a project. It’s a proving ground.
Guided by a faculty mentor and paired with expert advisors—working scientists, entrepreneurs, artists, authors—each student is pushed to think bigger, work harder, and go further than they ever thought possible. They discover that real achievement takes effort, courage, and persistence and that with the right guidance, a challenge becomes a transformation.
The results are as bold and varied as the students themselves: a seaworthy wooden sailboat. A published novella. A short film that filled the local theatre. A 30-page research paper defended with fire.
But the true masterwork isn’t what they make. It’s who they become: students who have met a genuinely difficult challenge and who walk off the stage more confident, more courageous, and more ready for whatever comes next.
