Teachers on call
Island Pacific School (IPS) focuses exclusively on meeting the educational needs of adolescents in Grades 6-9. Our IB Middle Years Programme, outdoor challenges and community service experiences set students up for the rest of their lives. Housed in a purpose-built, student-friendly facility, IPS is located in the safe community of Bowen Island and offers an enriched curriculum that includes philosophy, reasoning and ethics classes, monthly community service activities and multi-day outdoor expeditions.
With small classes of 15-18 and a total school population of 60-72, you’ll enjoy getting to know both your students and discovering how best to motivate and inspire them. Working with a close-knit team of IB teachers in a highly collaborative environment, you’ll have ample opportunity to expand your teaching practice beyond the school’s walls by taking advantage of nearby forest trails, professional community members and local organizations.
You hold a valid BC Teaching Certificate and are prepared to contribute to the total culture of the school by participating in outdoor expeditions, serving as a homeroom teacher, coaching Ultimate, and becoming a Masterworks advisor. Candidates must hold a Bachelor of Education Degree (or higher). Salary is dependent upon experience and qualifications. We’d love to hear from you!
Pay Rate:
Although the commute from West Vancouver by ferry is only 20 minutes, this role is ideally suited to someone who lives on, or would be willing to relocate to Bowen Island. Experience IB MYP training would be considered an asset but is not essential.

The learning community at Island Pacific School is actively committed to ensuring all individuals are valued, safe, and have a sense of belonging.
We create this atmosphere by adhering to our established Equity, Diversity, Inclusion (EDI) Standards wherein our staff, students and families are treated equitably based on their individual need, background and history. We strive to ensure everyone has the opportunity to achieve their goals. Our EDI Standards are expressed through the following actions:
- We support a culture of belonging at IPS, where people are heard and are confident to contribute ideas, feedback, and perspectives to drive change. We have active strategies in place to ensure that our community members remain confident to contribute their ideas and perspectives, received and explored through a positive feedback framework. Establishing this framework sets a clear intention that these new and emerging perspectives will drive positive change;
- We work hard to foster, embrace, and place significant value and attention to our culture of belonging because we understand that to honour the individual we must succeed in creating an environment where everyone feels as though they truly belong. We challenge ourselves to appreciate and find strength in differences so that we are ready to distribute resources and support based on those needs;
- We challenge our individual bias and in this way are able to focus on the principles of respect in the name of equity; we celebrate diversity as represented in the unique dimensions, qualities, experiences, and characteristics we individually possess. We strive towards inclusivity by creating a safe culture and environment by embracing, accepting, and respecting diversity, all the while striving for equity.
In this environment, we regularly meet to examine IPS principles of inclusivity to meet a high standard where safe culture and environment is the standard.
IPS hires on the basis of merit and is strongly committed to equity and diversity within its community. We especially welcome applications from visible minority group members, women, Aboriginal persons, persons with disabilities, persons of minority sexual orientations and gender identities, and others with the skills and knowledge to productively engage with diverse communities.
