Have you ever wondered if lack of sleep affects students’ performance? Or if humans can consistently recognize AI generated photos? What about if we can still detect blood in a cleaned up crime scene with luminol? Are you interested in light refraction, preventing litter, paper airplanes, drumming, or saving money on your heating bill? These are just a few of the topics the Grade 7 and 8 students are exploring in their science fair projects this year. The enthusiasm is infectious and the learning is genuine for the students and their teacher.
Science Fair has become a favourite project for many middle school students as it gives them a chance to learn about things that they are curious about and interested in. By conducting experiments, they learn that they can find the answers to their own questions and it sparks a sense of wonder and curiosity that transfers to other aspects of their lives. Every year we see the students become excited about their topic.
Science Fair is a challenging project that requires students to complete many steps over a long period of time. It may also be complicated and require some higher level critical thinking and problem solving, but, no matter the level of difficulty or complexity, students learn about the scientific method and gain an appreciation for the role science plays in advancing our understanding of the world around us.
On February 12, while the 7s and 8s are presenting their projects, and the grade 6s will be showcasing their Rube Goldberg machines! Please join us to celebrate their learning and to find the answers to the fascinating questions the students have been investigating.
You are welcome to join us at the school between 5:20 and 7:00pm.
Complimentary Bus shuttle from Snug Cove at 5 pm and return shuttle at 7:05 pm for the 7:25 ferry.
MAINSTAGE! CLASSIC KIDS COMEDY AND CHAOS
Join us for an evening of middle school comedy. This year, Island Pacific School is pleased to present two short plays for our Mainstage Production.
Thursday, March 6th & Friday, March 7th
6:30pm – 8pm
Too Many Detectives at the Murder Mansion: Sure, you think you’ve seen this type of murder mystery before. A cast of eccentric characters meet at a mansion, only to become suspects of a murder that a singular genius detective will eventually solve. But what happens when all the suspects are the detectives? Sherlock Holmes, Nancy Drew, Miss Marple, and Batman are just a few of the guests. Too Many Detectives at the Murder Mansion is a whodunnit that will leave you laughing and guessing right until the very end!
Peter Pan Leaves Neverland: In this student-created play, a small cast of actors takes on casting Neverland in a new light. Peter Pan and the Lost Boys grow weary of an ever-near-perfect Neverland and are suddenly pushed into the real world by an insistent Wendy, with Hook, Tink, and Smee close on their heels. They have mixed results in the real world: someone becomes an influencer, some form a boy band, and a certain boy who fears growing up must face some difficult truths. But as they settle into their new lives, a lurking threat emerges, forcing them to face a villain hiding in plain sight.
