Feel Good Friday: Kari Marentette

Another fun, frenetic week passes at Island Pacific School and this week we honour teacher Kari Marentette for her cheerful leadership in French gr. 6-9, Individuals & Societies gr. 6 and Homeroom gr. 6.

Tell us about something you’re passionate about right now.

Right now I’m passionate about reading. My reading goal for this year is 20 books and I’ve read six so far. Currently I’m reading the fiction novel Anxious People by Fredrik Backman.

What’s the most enjoyable part of your work?

The most enjoyable part of my work would be building relationships with students and watching them grow and learn. Seeing the differences between where they start in September and where the end up in June is rewarding.

What is one good thing that has come out of COVID for you?

Covid has taught me how to slow down and re-prioritize.

How do you feel about Mondays at Island Pacific School?

Monday’s are hectic with meetings and teaching and coaching and generally just getting back into the swing of things, but it is always nice to come back and hear the kids’ stories from the weekend.

Tell us about the value of school excursions.

Excursions are great opportunities for students at IPS to learn beyond our little community, and to create memories together.

What’s your experience at report card time?

Great time of year to reflect on all the progress that’s been made.
