School Philosophy

We believe that the distinctive purpose of middle school education is to cultivate an intellectual awakening in adolescents at a time in their lives when they are most open to ideas about curriculum, themselves, and the world around them.

We believe that education is a collective undertaking that requires the commitment and support of students, families, teachers, and the community at large. We understand that middle-school students (10-15 years) are at a pivotal time in their cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development—it is a time of tremendous personal change; a time in which students are shaped by the influences of home, school, and community in a way not matched during other periods in their formative years at school.

We believe that students should take responsibility for their learning and we’ve created a school culture that empowers middle school students at every grade. We want our students to graduate in the knowledge they can make a positive difference, not only in their own lives, but in the lives of others as well.

We believe that middle school students will be surprised to discover what they can achieve when they are encouraged to stretch themselves in a small, safe, nurturing environment.
